This lawsuit came to my attention today through an email from Friends General Conference, an association of Quaker meetings in the United States.
Friends General Conference (FGC) has joined a multifaith coalition and the Institute for Constitutional Advocacy and Protection (ICAP) in opposition to the rescission of ICE’s sensitive locations policy, which is a direct violation of the First Amendment and the Religious Freedom Restoration Act.
The repeal of this policy directly interferes with the ability of meetings and churches within FGC to fulfill our spirit-led obligations and priorities. FGC strives to support all our meetings and attenders in the spirit of the equality testimony, and with the dignity that all people deserve. Read more.
The email contains links for more information about the lawsuit brought by a coalition of Christian and Jewish denominations and associations. I signed the petition in support of the lawsuit because I believe that concurrently with our study of the spiritual Principalities and Powers, we can also take thoughtful action as we are led. The petition will be delivered to the President, the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, and every member of Congress.
