Suggestions for our work together:
To establish a common thought basis, let’s read Walter Wink’s THE POWERS THAT BE: Theology for a New Millennium, published in 1998 and available in paperback at Amazon. Walter was one of my teachers – a biblical scholar and theologian who writes well. This book is an accessible summary of his more scholarly 3-volume Powers Trilogy.
We could read the introduction and Chapter 1 (Identifying the Powers) and then discuss it at a Zoom session. Meeting Time: Monday, January 27, 6-7:30 pm MT. We could meet each other, discuss how best to use the website to share materials and thoughts, and begin to figure out how we’ll work together as well as discuss the Wink material. I’m assuming that education and developing a common language is a good starting point for developing strategies and moving into action.
Wink also created a six-part video series, The System Belongs to God, in which he, noted preacher James Forbes, and Children’s Defense Fund Haley Farm and and Nonviolent Organizing Director Janet Wolf dialogue about the Powers. I’m trying to track it down (EcuFilm no longer exists, but there are other possibilities) and either borrow or rent it to download onto the website. There are some segments on YouTube, but I haven’t as yet figured out if the whole series is available that way. If any is interested in helping access it, please let me know.
