Religious traditions have often treated the Powers as angelic or demonic beings fluttering about in the sky. Behind the archaic literalism of that sort of thinking, however, is the perception that spiritual forces impinge on and determine our lives… an insight lost in a society blinded as by a materialism that believes only in what it can see, hear, taste, smell, or touch.
